Mettingen / 1801-1810 / Church of St.Agatha Marriages / Heiraten / Huwelijken In this document a transcription is made from the Roman Catholic marriages in the period 1801-1810, starting january 1801 and ending january 1811. The source is located in the Bischop's Archive in Münster.
The transcription is first entered into a private database and after completion subtracted from that database into this document. This accounts for some inaccuracies and incongruencies with the source.
Before starting to analyse the content of this document, users are advised to familiarize themselves with the subject of Oberlingen in Westphalen, the history of that area, feodalism as it was practised in Westphalen, namechanging, inheriting Bauernhöfe or Kotten or Ganze und Halbe oder Viertel Erben and the like. Some basic knowledge of German and Dutch would be very helpfull.
Transcription procedure In general this source is transcribed completely as good as possible in transcribing a manual written page into a database, using a character-based database user-interface. Therefore some pecularities can be noticed. Very often a double german ss is either written as fs or sf, where the f stands for a long german s. The transcription is done typographically rather than literally and therefore you can read either Vosf of Vofs, both meaning Voss.
Chronology Source-order is in line with chronology. But there seems to be a gap starting june 1806 up to april 1807, with one odd exception in january 1807. Maybe for this reason a copy of the evangelical marriage-register 1806-1807 was added at the end of this source. These years are dealt with in a separate document.
Inserted comments In the part starting with he= or she=, you'll find my guess about the bride and groom and their parents, as I have put it in my database at the time of publishing. These interpretations are subject to change, so be careful and make your own reconstructions. You can find a lot of question marks densely sprinkled across the document. This is because reconstruction is hopelessly tough and it is nearly impossible to be sure of anything here.
